WIMBLEDON — When you have covered tennis and much more for nearly 70 years, you have no shortage of material or opinions. Richard Evans, a working journalist since age 17, is now 85 and one of the new members of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Evans and I spoke this year at Wimbledon, where he attended his 205th Grand Slam tournament, and I found the conversation so rich that I thought it best to serve it in two helpings. I released the first part yesterday and am releasing the second part now for paying subscribers.

On which match he would show someone if he wanted them to fall in love with tennis:

“There are too many great matches. But the most interesting one was Arthur Ashe beating Jimmy Connors in the 1975 Wimbledon final. By a mile. Because how often do you see a great athlete go out in the most important match of his career and play totally contrary to how he’s played every other match?
