As another Wimbledon begins, the long but inevitable transfer of power continues in the men’s game. For 20 years, the Big Three and Andy Murray hoarded the goodies at the All England Club. Roger Federer won eight times, Novak Djokovic seven and Rafael Nadal and Murray twice apiece.
But Carlos Alcaraz broke that generational chokehold in spectacular fashion last year: winning the match of the season over Djokovic in five magnetic sets and four hours and 43 minutes, depriving Djokovic of an excellent chance at the Grand Slam.
The Serbian star won the other three majors in 2023, but Djokovic now holds just one major title, the US Open. He is neither No. 1 nor the oddsmakers’ favorite at Wimbledon.
